Urological Surgeon

Dr Neil Joshi is an experienced, Australian born and trained Urological Surgeon. He is one of the founding partners of North Sydney Specialists.

He was born in Gosford on the Central Coast of NSW and schooled at Knox Grammar on the upper north shore of Sydney. He completed his MBBS with Honours at the University of Sydney. His general surgical and advanced general surgical training was at Westmead, Nepean and Blacktown hospitals in Sydney and at The Alfred in Melbourne. He has trained as a urological surgeon in Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney and St Vincent’s and The Austin General Hospital in Melbourne, with further fellowship experience overseas in robotic surgery and uro-oncology at the Netherlands Cancer Institute in Amsterdam in 2008. Neil has completed specific urological fellowships in renal tract stone and laser stone surgery both overseas and at Royal North Shore hospital, after completing general urological surgery training. He has also completed post-fellowship training in urologic prosthetic surgery in various centres in the United States. All these centres have world-renowned experts in their various urological subspecialties. He has also presented multiple peer-reviewed research papers and published articles in major worldwide urological journals throughout his career.

He is a Senior Clinical Lecturer for the University of New South Wales School of Medicine and is actively involved in teaching of medical students and junior medical officers. He also attends annually the largest peer-reviewed conferences in Urology in the world, in both Europe and the United States, keeping up to date with the latest technology and evidence base in Urological care.

He obtained his Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2008, and is a full member of the Urological Society of Australia and New Zealand and Australian Medical Association, and is also a full international member of the European Association of Urology. He has trained in all areas of Urological practice, including stone, robotic, laparoscopic and cancer surgery, as well as surgery for infertility and prosthetic surgery. The practice also has specialized equipment for performing Video Urodynamics and flow testing to cater for female and male patients with incontinence, as well as spinal cord injured patients with voiding dysfunction, as well as specialized treatments such as Botox injection into the bladder and Sacral Neuromodulation for managing complex voiding dysfunction and urinary incontinence.

Dr Joshi has appointments at Mater Hospital, North Shore Private Hospital and Macquarie University Hospitals. He continues to provide a travelling service to Coffs Harbour following >12 years as a resident urologist and for much of this time the solo urologist serving a very large draining population, leading to a substantial expertise across a broad range of urological conditions and emergencies.
