About Dr Sondhya (Sondy) Ghedia

Dr. Sondy Ghedia grew up in regional New South Wales and pursued studies in pharmacy before completing a medical degree at the University of Sydney. She undertook specialist training in paediatrics at Sydney Children’s Hospital, followed by advanced training in clinical genetics at the Children’s Hospital at Westmead and Sydney Children’s Hospital.
Since 2010, Dr. Ghedia has worked as a clinical geneticist across both public and private sectors, providing care for adult and paediatric patients. She is the Clinical Lead of the Department of Clinical Genetics at Royal North Shore Hospital and has extensive experience in the management of adults with Neurofibromatosis Type 1 (NF1). Royal North Shore Hospital is one of the few centres in Australia offering dedicated care for adults with this condition. Her expertise also encompasses general genetics, preconception carrier screening, and the coordination and interpretation of complex genetic testing.
Beyond her clinical work, Dr. Ghedia is committed to the professional development of genetic health professionals. She has served on the Board of Certification for Genetic Counsellors and is actively involved in supervising junior doctors training to become clinical geneticists. Since 2022, she has been a co-coordinator of the GENMED5001 postgraduate genomics course at the University of Sydney, contributing to educate non-genetic health professional in this rapidly evolving field.
